Understanding Pet Care in Cardiff
Cardiff is a compact capital with Welsh countryside and a coastline within easy reach, and a wet, mild climate running through most of the year. That combination shapes day-to-day pet care in some particular ways:
- A damp, mild climate that keeps fleas, ticks and parasites active across much of the year rather than just in summer, and keeps paws and coats muddy after almost any walk.
- Modern waterfront flats with no garden alongside well-used city parks where dogs mix closely, which makes parasite pick-up a year-round consideration.
- Quick access to Welsh countryside and the valleys, where ticks are common, livestock are regularly nearby and dogs need to be under close control on a walk.
- Coastal trips and beach walks within easy reach, where salt water, sea air and sand can irritate skin and ears and upset sensitive stomachs.
Knowing when a symptom is worth worrying about, and when it can safely wait, is one of the hardest parts of being a pet parent in Cardiff. From the City Centre to anywhere else across the city, getting a professional opinion online means you can make that call without heading out in the rain or waiting days for a clinic appointment.
Why Vet Telehealth Works for Pet Owners in Cardiff
Between city traffic, wet Welsh weather and the cost of in-person appointments, getting your pet seen in Cardiff isn't always quick or simple. Loading an anxious animal into the car in the rain is a lot to take on for a worry that might turn out to need nothing more than reassurance.
A PangoVet call is a practical first step, and the written summary you receive afterwards has a use beyond that first conversation. If the vet recommends you follow up at a clinic, you can share the summary with them directly: it sets out what symptoms you described, what questions were asked, and what the next steps are. The in-person vet can then start from a clearer picture rather than beginning from scratch, which saves time and takes the pressure off you to remember every detail. The call is £21.99, no subscription required, nothing to download.
Online advice isn't a replacement for hands-on emergency care. If your pet is seriously unwell or in distress, you should still contact a local in-person vet straight away. For everyday questions, concerns after a countryside walk and peace of mind, though, speaking to a vet from home is often the simplest first step.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long is a PangoVet consultation?
A PangoVet consultation is 20 minutes on a call with a veterinarian. After the consult, you’ll receive a personalised report via email that covers everything you and the vet discussed and any plans of action for you and your pet going forward.
What is the price of a PangoVet consultation in GBP?
What can I do if I want to send images to the vet from my phone or I don’t know how to upload images in the booking form?
This is not a problem at all; you can always send your images directly to our email account [email protected]. Just remember to write down your name and the name of your pet.
How do I prepare for the PangoVet consultation call?
It’s easy to prepare for your consultation. Just have your device ready. You can join the video call from your phone, computer, or tablet. When possible, we recommend finding a quiet area without a lot of background noise or distraction. You may choose to have your pet accompany you on all, part, or none of the call, but our vets may request to see them depending on the nature of the call.
How do I join the PangoVet consultation call?
Simply click the link we email you! When your appointment starts, your vet will admit you into the private virtual consultation.PangoVet uses a secure, browser-based video platform – no downloads required! You can join the PangoVet video call on your mobile, computer, or tablet.
Do I need to have my video on for the consultation?
No, you do not need to use the video feature in your virtual vet consultation. If you prefer, you can use only audio, though we do recommend you use your video for if your pet is present so we can offer you the best, most comprehensive support.
What can I expect during the call?
Our vets will ask you various questions pertaining to your specific concerns stated in your booking form. They will offer advice, or triage, and can help guide you through whatever the next steps are!
Can PangoVet issue prescriptions?
No — PangoVet doesn’t prescribe medication. In the UK, prescription medicines can only be prescribed by an RCVS-registered vet who has your pet under their care, and many medicines still require a hands-on examination. What we can do is help you understand whether your pet may need medication, what to ask your local vet, and what tests might be worth discussing — so you arrive at the clinic prepared. We can even help you decide whether an in-person visit is needed at all.
Should I go to the vet, or should I do a PangoVet teleadvice call?
For questions about your pets health, including advice on nutrition, behaviour, training, or general medical advice, we are here to help! We offer peace of mind, and can guide you through the process of how to best help your pet, and the actionable steps you can take to keep them happy and healthy! But, PangoVet is not a substitute for an in-person veterinary exam. If your pet is experiencing any life-threatening or emergency situation, please contact your local vet or an out-of-hours emergency vet.
Do you need to see the medical records of my pet?
No, at PangoVet we don’t need your pet’s medical records to have a video call with you and your pet.
How can PangoVet help my pet?
Our service provides veterinary advice, guidance, and triage. We are well-suited to help with your questions on pet health, nutrition, behaviour, and non-urgent illnesses. We have the time to discuss your questions in depth, which cannot always happen during an in-person clinic visit. We can also help you decide when and how urgently a trip to your vet clinic is necessary. And if needed, we can help you find a local vet near you, if you don’t already have one.
What services does PangoVet not provide?
Our vets cannot perform physical tests, make a diagnosis, or prescribe medications. We can provide veterinary advice, guidance, and help you prepare action plans for your pet for health, nutrition, behavioural, and non-urgent illness needs.
What regions is PangoVet not able to provide services to?
Our vets can speak with pet owners right across the UK.
At this time we are unfortunately not able to provide PangoVet services to customers in the following regions:
- Canadian province of Ontario
- Canadian province of British Columbia
This is because of legislation in the above-mentioned regions. We are hoping that they change their legislation soon so that we can provide our services to customers in those regions.
What should I do if I have more than one pet?
We love extended furry families! If you have questions on more than one pet, please book a separate consultation for each pet, so that we have the time to discuss each pet with the individual attention they deserve!
Why do I need to book in advance? Can I do an instant consultation?
We currently take advance bookings at certain times to allow us to best serve as many pets as possible. As we grow, so will our booking options!
What if I can’t find a slot that suits me? Can I book a consultation at a different time?
Of course. Just email us at [email protected] with your preferred time and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
Will my PangoVet consultation call be recorded?
Your call will be recorded for quality and training purposes, and to allow our vets to review your pet’s history, to ensure they can send you the best personalised recommendations possible after the call.
